The IET Sri Lanka network has been set up to serve the members of IET who live in Sri Lanka and to coordinate local activities. The local network’s activities include evening forums, committee meetings, technical sessions, workshops, international conferences/symposiums, field visits, conducting radio/TV programs for public awareness and younger member’s sessions. The IET has had members in Sri Lanka for over 80 years, with a current growing membership of over 1,000 engineers. IET Sri Lanka collaborates with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), British Computer Society (BCS), Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), the Institute of Physics Sri Lanka (IPSL) and the engineering faculties of the universities in Sri Lanka for many activities in the electrical, electronics & telecommunications and computer engineering related fields.

Since the beginning, the local network has been very active, having formed one of the the first Younger Members Sections (YMS) of the IEE outside the United Kingdom in 1987, to encourage the younger members to take an active part in their affairs.
