A NOVEL RECOMMENDER ALGORITHM FOR MOBILE ALERT SERVICES

ABSTRACT – Recommender Systems are part of our daily experience as the number of choices facing consumers increase rapidly to levels most individuals find difficult to evaluate without recourse to an automated system of reference. In the past when consumer choices were limited, one  had the ability to research all available options or make a decision utilizing suggestions from ones social network. In this paper we develop a novel recommender algorithm for a Mobile Telecommunications service application in which customers subscribe to certain types of Short Message Service (SMS) alerts depending on their interests.

ADHOC EXTENSIBILITY USING THE STANDARD I2C
BUS

ABSTRACT-In this paper we present supplementary work carried out on extending the standard I2C communication bus under the project SiFEB— A Simple, Interactive and Extensible Robot Playmate for Kids; in order to be capable of attaching previously unconfigured slave devices into an existing standard I2C communication network and get them functioning by properly allocating valid addresses to them. The approach uses standard I2C hardware and two general purpose I/O lines per a single slave device which are cascaded along the bus in order to give the device a sense of physical position of attachment.

DIGITAL TALKING BOOK FOR VISION IMPAIRED
INDIVIDUAL

ABSTRACT -This paper, presents user friendly ways to read books for print disable individuals. “Reading” is  the process of looking at a series of written  symbols and making meaning from them. However, there, the print disabled who are, the  blind, partially sighted, dyslexics, those with visual impairments, physically disabled, and learning-disabled who have difficulty in accessing print media information. Digital talking books are the significant technology for the print disabled community to access printed media information. The Digital Accessible Information System (DAISY) technology; it is an open international standard for accessible multimedia developed by libraries serving
persons with print disabilities in collaboration with the target users around the globe. The proposed “Talking Book” improves the blind users’ ability to read digital daisy books. The main function of the talking book player; computer memory and retrieves bookmarks, automatically unzip downloaded zip files and convert them into readable manner.
Additionally, it consists predefined gestures and voice commands to navigate through the pages in the diligence. This paper presents a user interface with an easy-to-distinguish layout, auditory output and gestural input that enables visually impaired people to interact with an Android smartphone device.
Keywords — Vision Impaired, DAISY, Gesture Recognize, Voice Control, Digital Book Player

CRIME SURVEILLANCE 360˚- A SMART REAL-TIME CRIME EVIDENCE ANALYZER AND REPORTER

ABSTRACT – From developing countries to developed countries crimes are one of the major issues that the societies and governments have to deal with. In Sri Lanka, the statistics of Sri Lanka Police (SLP) reveals that the average crime reporting just for the SLP between the years 2005 to 2014 was around 55,000 to 60,000 annually; representing a total of 22 crime categories. It is a well-known fact that the crime occurrence rate in Sri Lanka is between 150 to 164 incidents per diem. Each year, 40% of these reported crimes remain unsolved. These statistics are strictly based on the crimes that are reported only to the SLP. Therefore, in the law enforcement officers’ own words; “The island-wide actual crime occurrence rate is much higher”. Going deep into the domain problems such as; ‘some crimes remain unreported due to a variety of personal and external issues of victim’s or witness’s’, ‘reported crimes cannot be solved due to lack of evidences’, ‘negative attitude and psychological factors of general public towards crime reporting’ and ‘relatively less efficient methods of crime reporting, collecting, analyzing and processing of information’ were identified as areas requiring improvement. The proposed application is designed to address these shortcomings.

REAL-TIME GREY CALL DETECTION SYSTEM USING COMPLEX EVENT PROCESSING

ABSTRACT -Illegal international voice call termination (aka. grey calls) is one of major source of revenue loss in Telco industry. Annually billions of dollars revenue is lost due to this fraud. The effects of illegal termination are felt by both the mobile operators and their end users, as it causes severe quality of service degradations. Hence, detection of Grey callers in real-time allows to nullify the impact. Existing solutions are based on Call Detail Records (CDR) analysis. These tools follow traditional database reliant store first, process then approach, Moreover, CDR collected within a large time window is considered for decision making, thus lacks real-time features and unable to effectively control the fraud. This paper presents a CDR based, real-time grey call detection system using Complex Event Processing (CEP). Our primary focus is to utilize the power of CEP to detect complex,
fraudulent caller patterns in real time, in spite of high arrival rate of CDR records.

DESIGN OF AN ELECTRONIC GOVERNOR FOR A  DIESEL GENERATOR WITH SYNCHRONOUS,  ISOCHRONOUS AND ISLANDED MODES: TEACHING TOOL

ABSTRACT –  The design of the fuel valve of a diesel generator, and the algorithm to control the speed, is presented in this paper. Initially a  control hardware circuit was designed and  built, capable of controlling the fuel flow of the  generator so that it can be operated at a desired speed in isochronous mode. Unlike in the traditional controllers, no speed sensor is required, and the instantaneous frequency is extracted from the generator output voltage waveform. This governor has been developed to have the ability to run in isochronous and islanded modes as well as the isochronous mode. The developed governor will be used as a teaching tool for electrical engineering undergraduates with the power system simulator that has been recently developed, to gain the real power system operation experience. WHEELCHAIR FOR PHYSICALLY DIFFERENTABLED  PEOPLE WITH HAND GESTURES, VOICE  AND ULTRASONIC CONTROL

ABSTRACT – This paper is concerned with the design and  development of a voice and gesture recognized  wheelchair system to assist disable people to  travel safely. The architecture of this  wheelchair consists of a main board, sensors  and a user panel. Furthermore, it consists of  two interfaces “Flex glove mode” and “Voice  mode”, which enables individuals to use it in  different conditions. This exclusive com bination  allows to operate wheelchair to navigate to  destination, and any surrounding dynamic  obstacles to be detected with the aid of  ultrasonic sensors, during real-time  autonomous navigation, minimizing edges and  preventing accidental collisions.  Keywords: Hand Gestures, Ultrasonic Control,  Flex glove mode, Voice mode, Wheelchair.

WIRELESS AD-HOC ARCHITECTURE FOR DISASTER RELIEF

ABSTRACT- Disasters of different scales could cause  complete or partial failure of conventional  communication systems. Communication and  exchange of information are the cornerstones of  any disaster response for informed decision  making. Hence raises the requirement for a  rapidly deployable, robust to failures and easily  maintainable communication network.  Especially for relief operations conducted to  save thousands of human lives, establishing  emergency communication is vital. Establishing
communication using technologies independent  from the conventional systems and service  providers is a challenging task as feasible  technology options are very limited.
